Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller has over 20 miles of carriage roads and trails to explore. These routes weave through peaceful forests, scenic overlooks, and historic landscapes, and several connect directly into downtown Woodstock.

Trail Access Points:
  • Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller main entrance on VT-12 (parking at the Billings Farm & Museum)
  • Prosper Road parking lot (National Park Service)
  • Faulkner Park (Faulkner Trust)
  • King Farm (Vermont Land Trust).
The Walk Woodstock map shows the intersecting trails from all of these agencies combined. Paper copies of these maps are available at the Carriage Barn Visitor Center.

Rules and Regulations

  • Bicyles and motor vehicles are prohibited on trails.
  • Dogs must remain on a 6ft leash. Please pick up after your pet.
  • Pack out all waste. Trash receptacles are available at the Billings Farm & Museum parking lot.
  • Swimming and fishing in the Pogue are prohibited.

Hiking Safety

  • Bring plenty of water.
  • Wear comfortable shoes with good support.
  • Park only at designated trailheads and lock your vehicle.
  • Keep pets leashed at all times.
  • Choose a route appropriate for your ability, stay on marked trails, and carry a map.
  • Share your plans with someone and stick to them.
  • Carry a cell phone for emergencies (note that service is often unreliable in the western parts of the park).
  • Hikers yield to horses. Step calmly off the trail to the downhill side. When approaching from behind, announce yourself and your direction. Avoid sudden movements or loud noises.
  • Dial 911 in an emergency.
  • Follow park safety regulations.
  • Check the weather before heading out and be prepared to adjust plans if conditions change.

Winter Multi-Use Trails: Approximately 4 miles of trail along the main carriage road corridors have been designated as ‘Multi-Use Trails’ in winter. Hikers are permitted to use these trails free of charge (without purchasing a pass from the Nordic Center) provided they do not walk in the ski tracks, keep dogs on leash at all times, and respect the skiing-and snowshoeing-only trails.

Accessibility Information
Due to the steep grade of Mount Tom, none of the carriage roads or trails within the national park boundary are ABA accessible. Carriage roads are created with packed gravel and have even footing, and wheelchairs are permitted. Consider the steep grades of trails before beginning a trail.
