Experiencing Scotts Bluff National Monument by bicycle can be a wonderful experience. The Prairie View Trail is open to bicycles from sunrise to sunset. The Summit Road is open to bicycles from sunrise until the road opens to motor vehicles and again from when the road closes to motor vehicles until sunset.
There are two locations within Scotts Bluff National Monument where bicycling is permitted. The Prairie View Trail is a 1.2 mile-long paved trail that leads from the Scotts Bluff National Monument Visitor Center to the eastern boundary of the Monument. At the eastern boundary the Prairie View Trail connects with the City of Gering's Monument Valley Pathway.
The Scotts Bluff Summit Road is also open to bicycling, but only when closed to vehicular traffic. The Summit Road hours of operation for vehicular traffic can be found here. The road is open to bicycling from sunrise until opening and then from closing until sunset.
Bicycling is permitted in Scotts Bluff National Monument year-round. However, temperatures and wind conditions are most favorable for cycling in late spring through early fall.
Scotts Bluff National Monument is open from sunrise until sunset daily. Remember, bicycles may not use the Summit Road when it is open to vehicular traffic.
