Attendees are encouraged to bring their own cross-country skis and/or snowshoes for the SBHT event. Snowshoes will be loaned on a first-come, first-served basis. Park rangers will provide information along the route. There is no advanced registration needed. Luminaries and a full moon will light the trail, however, visitors are encouraged to bring a flashlight or headlamp and wear layers.
While skiing and snowshoeing are dependent on snow, this event will take place regardless of snow conditions. In the case of a lack of snow, rangers will still be stationed along the trail providing information to those hiking.
The National Lakeshore is planning special programs and events each month in 2020. Look over the calendar of events to discover anniversary programs and activities at https://www.nps.gov/slbe/planyourvisit/calendar.htm. Share your 50th anniversary adventures on social media using #SleepingBear50.
