Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (National Lakeshore) announces that pavement work is planned for May and June, 2015 in the Platte River Campground. Ordinarily, 122 of the campground’s 179 campsites can be reserved for May 15 to October 15, 2015. In 2015, due to pavement work, no campsites can be reserved with an arrival date prior to July 1, 2015. Campsites can be reserved six months in advance for arrival dates of July 1 through October 15, 2015 by calling 1-877-444-6777 or on-line at www.recreation.gov. All Platte River Campground campsites will open in the spring on a first come, first served basis as the pavement work allows. The campground will be open May 22-25, 2015 for Memorial Day weekend. Then the entire campground will close on May 26, 2015. The pavement work is tentatively scheduled to take place from May 26 to June 30, 2015. The campground will re-open on a first come, first served basis if the pavement work is completed prior to June 30, 2015. In 2015, all paved areas, other than county and state roads, within Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will receive surface treatment. The work will involve the use of heavy equipment and require additional restrictions and closures. Closures will be announced as the work schedule is solidified.
