Superintendent Dusty Shultz is pleased to announce the third of three fee-free weekends this summer that will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16. Fees waived include entrance fees and commercial tour fees. Other fees such as reservation, camping, concession, and those collected by third parties are not included. Please note that the dates printed in the park’s 2009 Visitors Guide as August 22 and 23 are incorrect. August 15 and 16 are the correct dates when all national park sites across the country are free to visit. At Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, recreational opportunities abound and the public is welcome to enjoy the beaches, dunes, night skies, lakes, rivers, forests, trails, historic properties, islands, exhibits, and Park Ranger programs. The National Park Service initiated the fee-free weekends this summer to provide opportunities for affordable vacations for families, and to promote tourism and the economic benefit it brings to local area businesses. More information about the fee-free weekends can be found at www.nps.gov/findapark/feefreeparks.htm.
