Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore invites the public to witness the release of a Bald Eagle into the wild on Saturday, November 29, at 3:00 p.m. from the parking lot of the Visitor Center (on M-72) in Empire. Rebecca Lessard, Executive Director of Wings of Wonder, a non-profit raptor rehabilitation facility, chose this site to celebrate her last Eagle release of 2008. Bring a camera, as there will be many opportunities for great pictures! Prior to the release, and inside the Visitor Center, National Lakeshore staff will offer a program at 2:00 p.m. all about Eagles. They are fascinating birds and it is not very often that one has the opportunity to be so close to a Bald Eagle, the USA’s national emblem. Afternoon activities are free and this amazing learning experience will be memorable for all ages and abilities. For more information about the Eagle release, please contact Wings of Wonder at 231-326-4663 or www.wingsofwonder.org. Reservations are not required but are suggested if you wish to bring a group. The Visitor Center is open daily from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year days and features exhibits, a slide show, and a bookstore. For more information about the National Lakeshore, please call 231-326-5134. |
