Superintendent Dusty Shultz has announced that effective February 7, 2007, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will offer camping reservations through a new system, the National Recreation Reservation Service, operated by ReserveAmerica.

The National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS) was created with the goal of simplifying trip planning for the general public by consolidating all federal recreation information and reservations under one provider.  Through the NRRS, reservations may be made via phone or internet up to six months in advance of the camping date desired.  This is an improvement over the current system.

For the Lakeshore’s 2007 summer season, reservations will open on January 5, 2007 for arrival dates on or before June 4, 2007.  Campers wishing to reserve a site for these dates should continue to use the current phone number (1-800-365-CAMP, park code SLE) or website (https://reservations.nps.gov).

From January 24th through February 6th, there will be no reservations accepted as the system transition takes place.  On February 7, 2007, reservations will open for arrival dates up to six months in advance, including the period from June 5th to August 6th.  After February 7th, campers wishing to reserve a site should call 1-877-444-6777 or visit https://www.recreation.gov.
