Contact: Lisa Myers, 231-326-5134 Superintendent Dusty Shultz is pleased to announce the 2007 Port Oneida Fair to be held August 10 and 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Now in its sixth year, the Port Oneida Fair is a two-day celebration of Michigan’s rural traditions. While touring the district’s one-room schoolhouse, historic farms and original homesteads, visitors can witness timber framing, blacksmithing and quilt-making, experience a Civil War encampment, take a ride on a horse and wagon, watch a team of oxen at work in the field or learn about life in the early 1900s from an original resident. Family programs such as games, music and live entertainment will take place both days. Food and refreshments will be available and picnic areas will be provided. A free shuttle service will transport visitors between the five historic event sites.
