Celebrate National Park Week at Sleeping Bear Dunes

While you are patiently looking forward to a spring full of sunshine and warmer days, the National Park Service (NPS) is preparing to help you #FindYourPark during National Park Week, April 21 through April 29. This year’s theme, “Park Stars,” is celebrating everything from starry skies to superstar volunteers. Parks, programs, and partners nationwide invite people everywhere to explore stories, experiences, and sites that shine a light on the National Park System. So don’t miss out on the opportunity to celebrate National Park Week at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (National Lakeshore).

On Saturday, April 21, the NPS is waiving the park entrance fees and commercial tour fees in celebration of National Park Week. Other fees, including camping, reservations, and concession fees are not included.

April 21 is also Junior Ranger Day. Stop by the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to pick up your Junior Ranger book and complete the fun-filled activities. If you complete the requirements for your age group, you can earn a special patch for Junior Ranger Day, which you can also get at the visitor center.

Be sure to follow the National Lakeshore on social media during National Park Week as they highlight the “stars” of the park. From their incredible staff, volunteers, and visitors to their daytime vistas and night skies, there will be something new posted about their “Park Stars” each day that week on Facebook at www.facebook.com/sbdnl, Twitter at www.twitter.com/sleepingbearnps, and Instagram at www.instagram.com/sleepingbearnps.

Come out to the park and find your own park stars. Go for a hike on one of the 13 trails, get sandy at the Dune Climb, or explore one of the amazing beaches and enjoy the Lake Michigan views. Look for early signs of spring while spending time in your national park during National Park Week.
