Seeking Local Hire Applicants for Entry Level GS-03

Summer Park Guide

 

Sitka National Historical Park, (January 29, 2013)  - Sitka National Historical Park is now accepting applications for a GS-0090-03 park guide for the summer 2013 season. This entry-level, full-time, temporary appointment is expected to last from approximately April 22nd through the end of September, 2013.

 

As a member of the park's interpretation and education team, the park guide will present limited and pre-established talks about the natural and cultural history of Sitka National Historical Park and Southeast Alaska, and will conduct frequent tours of the 1843 Russian Bishop's House.  The incumbent will perform work at the park's visitor center, greeting visitors and answering questions. This position is expected to operate a cash register, complete shift reports for the park's cooperating association bookstore, and answer telephone inquiries. Duties require the ability to climb stairs in the Russian Bishop's House National Historic Landmark.


Any U.S. citizen who, by reason of having either lived or worked in the Sitka area of consideration, has acquired special knowledge or expertise regarding the natural or cultural resources of the park may apply. The "Sitka area of consideration" includes all of Baranof Island, the communities of Sitka and Port Alexander, and small communities of a seasonal nature including Little Port Walter, Baranof Warm Springs, Biorka Island and Warm Springs Bay. Applicants will not qualify for this position if they have only lived and worked in the areas considered on a temporary seasonal basis.

 

The GS-03 park guide will earn $13.99/hr and is entitled to paid holidays, annual and sick leave. This position may involve weekend work or performance of duties before or after "normal" working hours. Government housing is not available. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. A driver's license is recommended.

If the application package is postmarked on the closing date it must be received in the administrative office no later than 7 calendar days after the closing date.  Hand delivered applications must be received by close of business on the closing date. Faxed or scanned applications will not be accepted. Veterans' preference applies.
