HAYNEVILLE – Just in time for National Park Week, the new National Park Service (NPS) mobile app (go.nps.gov/app) is now available for visitors to national parks across the country. Created by park rangers with visitors in mind, the NPS App gives the public up-to-date information about all 423 national parks, including the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail (NHT), in one easy-to-use app. Visitors can download the NPS App in the iOS App Store and Google Play Store to plan a trip, find interactive maps, download maps and tours ahead of time and find things to do and places to visit during National Park Week and beyond.National Park Week begins Saturday with the following daily themes.April 17: Park Rx & Fee Free DayApril 18: Volunteer SundayApril 19: Military MondayApril 20: Transformation TuesdayApril 21: Way Back WednesdayApril 22: Earth DayApril 23: Friendship FridayApril 24: National Junior Ranger DayApril 25: BARK Ranger DayAlthough the Interpretive Centers on the Trail (Selma, Lowndes and Montgomery) are currently closed due to the pandemic, the public can still connect with the Trail through social media.
In addition to the new NPS app, the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail website (www.nps.gov/semo) and Facebook page @SelmatoMontgomerynationalhistorictrail are full of historic information. A new video short featuring the City of St. Jude will debut on the Trail social media sites on Way Back Wednesday to celebrate National Park Week.
While on a visit to national parks, the public is reminded to recreate responsibly, follow park safety guidelines and wear masks while inside all federal facilities and outside where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
