Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument will be conducting a Spanish Mission Climate Vulnerability Assessment of the Quarai Mission Church to determine its climate change vulnerabilities and develop recommendations for future mitigation/adaptation strategies for any vulnerable areas of the Church.Please note that the Mission Church and areas of the Convento at Quarai will be closed to the public from Monday, January 29 to Thursday, February 1 to allow National Park Service staff, researchers, and contractors to conduct a structural assessment, high-resolution digital photography, and Light Detection and Ranging (Lidar) of the structure. Sections of the paved interpretive trail loop near the Church and Convento will be closed as well to ensure personnel and visitor safety as equipment, including lifts, will be utilized to complete the assessment.
The Quarai grounds, Visitor Center, restrooms, sections of the paved interpretative trail loop along the South Convento, Spanish Corral Trail and picnic area will remain open for visitation and public enjoyment during normal operating hours, 9:00AM to 4:00PM. During the winter season (November 1 – April 30), the Visitor Center at Quarai is closed every Wednesday.
