Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument is excited to be hosting Joyce Geier as this year’s Artist-in-Residence! The park congratulates Joyce on her selection and is thankful for her dedicated service to the park as the 2025 Photographer-in-Residence!For the past 5 weeks, Joyce has been busy exploring the park’s cultural and natural resources, including the park’s pristine dark skies. During her explorations, Joyce has been taking photos and compiling a visually attractive photo portfolio for the park. The portfolio will serve as the park’s image repository and Joyce’s work will be featured as promotional and educational outreach materials on the park’s website and social media.
During her time at Salinas Pueblo Missions, Joyce has also led public program activities and supported the park’s community outreach efforts. For the July 25, 2025, Dark Sky Event hosted at the Abó Unit, Joyce led the Dark Sky Photography Workshop introducing visitors to the tips and tricks of Night Sky Photography. On September 6, 2025, Joyce will host a public program introducing the Basics of Outdoor Photography Workshop at the Quarai Unit. Please visit our website calendar for more information about the workshop.
The Artist-in-Residence Program at Salinas Pueblo Missions is a partnership between the park and the Friends of Salinas Pueblo Missions (FSPM). The mission of FSPM is to promote public support for the care, preservation, and educational opportunities of Salinas Pueblo Missions. Thanks for the financial support of FSPM, this year’s Artist-in-Residence Program offered a stipend for Joyce to support her residency.
In Joyce’s own words,
It’s an honor to be selected for the Artist in Residence program. For me, it’s a wonderful way to support the National Parks System and my local National Monument, the Salinas Pueblo Missions. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to refine my photographic skills; and perhaps most importantly, it’s a perfect way for me to “give back” to parks that have provided so much joy, and to share that joy with others."
As the culmination of the 5-week residency at the park, Joyce will host a presentation to park staff and FSPM to showcase the completed photo portfolio and share what her experience at Salinas Pueblo Missions has meant for her artistic practice. Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument looks forward to sharing with its visitors the incredible artwork produced by Joyce Geier during the 2025 Artist-in-Residence Program!
