From Monday, May 19 through Thursday, May 22, the Church, Convento and sections of the interpretive trail at the Abó Unit will be closed to the public to allow park staff to undertake a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and Photogrammetry Assessment. The Abó Unit will remain open to the public during this time. However, visitors will not be able to access the Church, Convento, and sections of trail. These temporary closures will ensure the safety of visitors during the assessment and for staff to safely complete the work. Visitors will still have access to parking, restrooms, sections of trails, and the picnic area.
For more information about the closed areas of the Abó Unit, please refer to the map included.
The LiDAR and Photogrammetry Assessment will collect LiDAR and natural color imagery to provide the park with essential data to identify structurally vulnerable areas of the Church and Convento. The information gathered will support development of management strategies and monitoring protocols to prevent degradation and improve the resiliency of the historic structures.
For questions, please contact the park’s Public Information Officer at 505-581-6922.
