Update: This Scientists in Park service has been modified to now 1) feature bat monitoring (!) as a secondary component, 2) include a possible monitoring trip to Channel Islands National Park or Cabrillo National Monument besides serving largely, and living, in SAMO, and 3) be run through the NPS Scientists in Parks (SIP) program. From the SIP webpage, click on "Apply" and then "Browse Available Positions". You will be redirected to the Openings at Conservation Legacy webpage, where you may search for "Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, CA" to read all about and apply to this opportunity, among many others. Application period closed on October 12, 2025, thankfully with applications from many qualified applicants received. While the 2025 application period occurred in the fall, typically applications are accepted annually between early May to early June for a service period running February - June of the following year. That is, we are no longer accepting applications for Spring 2026 service, but please be on the lookout for an application period starting around May 2026 for Spring 2027 service.
