In honor of the service and sacrifices made by our veterans, entrance fees will be waived at National Parks sites throughout the country.Here at San Juan National Historic Site admission will be free from Friday, November 11 - Sunday, 13, 2011 to those visiting Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristóbal in recognition of Veterans Day. You are invited to take advantage of the long free weekend for visiting your National Park to celebrate this important holiday. "It is with respect and gratitude that we all honor our veteran men and women, including park staff, who have served for peace and freedom around the world. Come to celebrate Veterans Day at San Juan National Historic Site to explore and enjoy military history, and for some of you to think back of those days when you were stationed at what was once named Ft Brooks.Park staff look forward to seeing you and your family throughout the weekend," said Superintendent Walter J. San Juan National Historic Site is comprised of Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Castillo San Cristóbal, Fort San Juan de La Cruz (El Cañuelo), the San Juan Gate, Paseo del Morro and most of the City Wall.The fortifications are open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In addition, San Cristóbal is open until 7:00 pm on Tuesdays when the LeLoLai festival program is held in the main plaza from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm.Admission to San Juan NHS is regularly $3.00 per fort for adults and free for ages 15 and under. |
