San Juan, Puerto Rico- Superintendent Walter J. Chavez announces several events to be held at San Juan National Historic Site in the next few weeks. "We encourage you to come and join us as we continue celebrating our Centennial this year. Our 100th Anniversary is a great time to come to the park, enjoy its activities and help us celebrate the 100th birthday of the National Park Service. We are extremely proud and honored to serve our visitors and help to protect these invaluable resources we all share a love for, making this Centennial year, a very special time for the National Park Service and its employees, but just as important for our community and visitors. Please join us" said Superintendent Walter J. Chavez.
Upcoming activities for July and August:
·12TH Annual Artisan Fair at El Morro, July 23-24- Join us for a venue of local artisans, demonstrations and music from 9:00-6:00 pm each day.
·"Taking of the Forts" Fun Run, August 20th, 2016 (Approx. 3.5 miles)- This "Fun Run" will promote health and wellness with a run through Old San Juan, have fun highlighting new trails and the recently completed trail in the Outer Defenses of Castillo San Cristobal. ·Anniversary Weekend- The National Park Service will turn 100 on August 25th! We have planned 4 nights of musical programs, living history demonstrations and ranger led programs for the whole family all weekend long, from Thursday, August 25 to Sunday August 28. On Saturday, kids will be the focus with activities such as our Little Masons program, and we will have a very special surprise planned for Sunday evening at El Morro! Entrance to San Juan National Historic Site will be free ALL weekend! Join us!
To learn more about San Juan National Historic Site and how we work with local communities to educate, preserve local history and resources, and how you can help, please go to www.nps.gov/saju.San Juan National Historic Site is comprised of Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Castillo San Cristóbal, Fort San Juan de La Cruz (El Cañuelo), San Juan Gate, and most of the City Wall. The site is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Admission to San Juan National Historic Site and its fortifications is $5 for visitors 16 years or more and free for those 15 and under.
