Superintendent Walter J. Chavez announces the commemoration of the annual National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 25. National Public Lands Day is also a "fee free day" to Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristóbal. National Public Lands Day is an event that provides opportunities for the public to participate in volunteer projects to improve and enhance their public lands. To this effort, San Juan NHS is planning for a clean-up on the 16th of October in the beach area near the "infamous" Garita del Diablo and the community of La Perla.  Volunteers donating time and effort on the 16th, will receive a pass for one day's free entrance to be used within the next year at San Juan NHS or any other National Park Service site.

"I encourage you to come out and volunteer your time in keeping your park clean and enjoy the fortifications this weekend," said Superintendent Chavez.  Further details on the clean-up will be provided at a later date.

Additional information can be found at www.nps.gov/saju or by calling Jorge Maldonado at 787-729-6777.

San Juan National Historic Site is comprised of Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Castillo San Cristóbal, Fort San Juan de La Cruz (El Cañuelo), the San Juan Gate, Paseo del Morro and a major portion of the City Wall. The fortifications are open everyday from 9:00AM to 6:00PM, except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. Admission to a fort is $3.00 and $5.00 to both forts for adults (16 and over); children 15 and under are free.
