San Juan, PR. – On Saturday, December 17, 2016, San Juan National Historic Site and the Friends of San Juan National Historic Site in collaboration with The Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra invites you to attend a magical Christmas concert on the grounds of Castillo San Felipe del Morro at 7:00 PM. The concert is free of charge.
You are all invited to join us as we close our Centennial year with the great music presentation of “La Sinfónica de Puerto Rico”. The concert will include typical Puerto Rico Christmas songs that we all know. As part of the concert, musical group Mapeyé will be joining “La Sinfónica” with their music as well. “We encourage our visitors to participate and enjoy all your National Park has to offer including this free concert” said Superintendent Walter J. Chavez.
“Christmas is a time to be with family and friends, and this is the perfect opportunity for families in our communities to come and visit and get involved with San Juan National Historic Site”, added Superintendent Chavez.
Mr. Rafael Irizarry, Executive Director of the Musical Arts Corporation said he is pleased that the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra will offer this concert at El Morro. "The concert will bring joy to the public with songs that are part of our Christmas traditions. Roselín Pabón will direct the orchestra and has chosen a very special repertoire that includes, in addition to the Mapeyé group, soprano singer Natalia Gonzalez, baritone Ricardo Rivera and the National Choir and Ars Vocalis directed by Mr. William Rivera. ” Irizarry reported.
“As we close the year of our 100 years birthday celebration and welcome a new year we encourage you to be active, join us and contribute by protecting our fortifications” concluded the Superintendent.
We remind our neighbors and the general public that NO alcoholic beverages are allowed in the park. The concert is a lawn sitting event; please bring a blanket or a chair to enjoy the concert under the stars.
