Interior Region 1 Regional Director Gay Vietzke has selected Jonathan Parker as acting superintendent at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site. He will serve a 120-day detail assignment.Parker currently serves as the chief of Interpretation at Valley Forge National Historical Park in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. He previously served as the chief of Interpretation, Education and Partnerships at Salem Maritime and Saugus Iron Works National Historic Sites in Massachusetts.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to work alongside the outstanding staff and partners at Sagamore Hill,” said Parker. “I look forward to assisting the park with the ongoing preservation of this cherished family home and telling the stories of the Roosevelts’ dynamic contributions to American land conservation, foreign policy and public service.”
Parker began his career in the National Park Service as a volunteer at Valley Forge National Historical Park and has worked as a Division Chief, Park Ranger, Volunteer Coordinator, and Dispatcher at six national park units including Rainbow Bridge National Monument, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Lowell National Historical Park.
Mostly recently, Parker led the development of a combined $2.5 million federal project to design 3,600 square feet of new exhibits and to produce five new interpretive films for Valley Forge’s two million annual visitors.
He is a past recipient of the National Park Service Intermountain Regional Director’s Award for Public Safety Achievement and is a National Park Service Operational Leadership instructor.
Parker holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Education from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, and is an Eagle Scout. He enjoys sailing, hiking and photography.
