Tucson, AZ – The Red Hills Visitor Center and all interior roads in the Tucson Mountain District (TMD-west) of Saguaro National Park have been closed ahead of the predicted flooding due to the remnants of Tropical Storm Odile. "The roads in the area have flooded several times earlier this summer, and we are expecting more rain from this storm than any other so far this season", according to Andy Fisher, Chief of Interpretation. "In order to keep staff and visitors safe, we have made the decision to close the Red Hills Visitor Center and allow staff to evacuate from the area ahead of the storm". We encourage everyone to take precautions and to not cross any flooded washes or roadways. Please be especially cautious tonight after dark. As flooding recedes it will likely leave debris on roadways which could be hazardous to motorists. |
