Tucson, AZ- Saguaro National Park will begin three construction projects in the coming weeks that may impact visitor experience within the park. Rincon Mountain District Visitor Center Project Work will begin on the historic Rincon Mountain District Visitor Center on July 11. Both restrooms of the historic Visitor Center will be updated with new plumbing and electrical connections, as well as upgraded fixtures. Current systems have become outdated and require replacement to ensure the safety and convenience of park visitors. Additionally, the lobby floor of the visitor center will be temporarily removed and joists will be replaced. Pest control treatments to the existing and new joists will be conducted. Staff will also upgrade electrical and data lines for anticipated upgrades and future interpretative exhibits. Work on the visitor center and restrooms will be completed by mid-August. Portable restrooms and a portable visitor center will be available to park visitors. Installation of Traffic Monitoring System on Picture Rocks Road Traffic counters are being installed along roads within the park: on Picture Rocks Road near the Cam-boh Picnic Area from July 18th through the 22nd, and along Picture Rocks Roads near the junction with Golden Gate Road from July 25th through July 29th. Both locations will require Picture Rocks Road to be reduced to one lane while crews install the traffic monitoring systems. Additional Traffic Counters will be installed on Kinney Road later this summer. Our Traffic Monitoring Systems help Saguaro National Park better understand traffic patterns within the park. Please help us ensure workers' safety by slowing down in and around these areas. Road and Flood control improvements on Kinney Road Road work will begin on Kinney Road on July 22nd. Work will involve the upgrade and replacement of several culverts and low water crossings along Kinney Road that run throughout Saguaro National Park. Additional work will involve the resurfacing of parking areas including the park's Visitor Center. Work will continue through November, with minor traffic delays. |
