News Release Date: May 29, 2007 Can’t wait for the snow to clear on Longs Peak? Or perhaps you never plan to reach the top of Rocky Mountain National Park’s tallest peak. Whether you love or hate to hike, everyone can enjoy the antics and high adventure of climbing one of Colorado’s best known peaks during the 1870s. Isabella Bird tells the tale of climbing Longs Peak with the notorious Rocky Mountain Jim. Find out what Miss Bird heard under a frosty, moonlit night on Longs Peak and how Ring, the dog, kept her warm. Join Park Ranger, Sue Langdon on Saturday, June 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Beaver Meadows Visitor Center in Rocky Mountain National Park, with this 45 minute program on the life and times of Isabella Bird during her stay in Estes Park. Miss Bird came to Colorado in 1873 to find what a dear friend described as the most “beautiful place in the Americas”—Estes Park. She found out that scaling Longs Peak was not an easy trip, but well worth the effort. All programs are free and open to the public.
