News Release Date: January 21, 2008 When: Tuesday, January 22, 11:00 a.m. Where: Beaver Meadows Visitor Center in Rocky Mountain National Park What: On January 22, media will have an opportunity to observe park staff operating a new Air Curtain Burner to dispose of trees killed by beetles. The park purchased an air curtain burner in late summer to burn beetle killed trees. The burner is currently staged in the Glacier Basin Campground on the east side of the park and will be moved to the west side of the park in the spring. The burner is one of many tools that the park is using to deal with beetle killed trees. Park staff will demonstrate how the burner operates and discuss the benefits of using the burner; including minimal smoke emissions, the ability to burn “green” trees and the flexibility to burn trees under a variety of weather conditions. If weather conditions allow, pile burning may also be occurring in the park. Please contact Kyle Patterson, Public Information Officer at (970) 586-1363 or by e-mail if you plan to attend.
