Contact: Kyle Patterson, (970) 586-1363 Yesterday afternoon, Saturday, February 27, park rangers were notified at 2:07 p.m. that a woman was unconscious, pulseless, and not breathing on the Deer Mountain Trail just below the summit, roughly 3.5 miles from the trailhead. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was administered for more than an hour by park visitors. Rangers arrived on scene at 3:15 p.m. After further advanced cardiac life support was provided, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was later identified as Christine James, 38, who had recently moved to Denver, Colorado from Texas. She was hiking alone. The cause of death is under investigation. Foul play is not suspected.
Over twelve Rocky Mountain National Park Search and Rescue team members were involved in this incident. They reached the Deer Mountain Trailhead with her body at 7:35 p.m. Her body was transferred to the Larimer County Coroner's Office.
