At 7:00 a.m. yesterday, a park staff member on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park discovered a vehicle off of US 34 approximately three-tenths of a mile south of the Kawuneeche Visitor Center. The burned vehicle was off the road and there was a deceased person inside. Because of the condition of the victim, positive identification by the Grand County Coroner may take weeks. The vehicle was a 2008 Toyota Camry registered in Colorado.

The incident is believed to have taken place the evening of Tuesday, April 28.  The incident is believed to be accidental however; an investigation is ongoing by Rocky Mountain National Park and the Grand County Sheriff’s office with assistance from other agencies. The FBI assisted with the initial investigation.  No further information is available at this time.
