WASHINGTON— To better fulfill park requirements for cost effective operations, Rock Creek Park plans to implement an application fee for organizations seeking Special Use Permits for construction and other activities requiring park access. The fee would be required only for activities that are not covered under 36 CFR 7.96. The public is invited to review the plans and submit comments from July 20 through August 19.
This proposal does not apply to activities such as research permits, use of picnic areas, special events or other permitted activities under 36 CFR 7.96.
While most national parks in the Washington, D.C., area have an established application fee for construction and other activities requiring park access, Rock Creek Park has yet to put one in place. To be consistent with other area national parks and national policy, Rock Creek Park is considering an application fee of $250.
The park also plans to more strictly enforce existing National Park Service cost recovery policies for construction and other park land access permit activity that require NPS staff time and permit monitoring.
Rock Creek Park is planning to implement the proposed application fee beginning Oct. 1, 2023.
Submit Comments: Public participation is vital to the planning process. You are invited to review the concepts and provide comments through August 19. To provide comments online or get additional information on the project, visit https://parkplanning.nps.gov/rockcreekappfee.
If you prefer to mail your comments, make sure they are postmarked by August 19 to receive consideration. Comments by mail may be sent to:
