WASHINGTON – Rock Creek Park Superintendent Tara Morrison announced today that the park will hold a public meeting to discuss its new foundation document on Monday, March 3, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Vaghi Dining Room located at St. John's College High School on 2607 Military Road, NW Washington, DC 20015.
The National Park Service is preparing a foundation document to inform planning and management of Rock Creek Park. The park welcomes the public to participate in this effort.
A foundation document affirms a national park unit's core purpose and significance, its most important resources and values, and interpretive themes. This foundation document will be used to inform future management and planning decisions at Rock Creek Park. It will not give specific recommendations for future conditions at the park, but will instead provide a framework for future park decisions by documenting what is most important about the park and understanding what is needed to protect and preserve those resources.
The National Park Service invites the public to play a role in charting the park's future by sharing their thoughts on what is most important about Rock Creek Park, and to help identify its most pressing threats and its greatest opportunities. This input will be taken into consideration by the project team. Please submit your feedback at the park planning website for Rock Creek Park at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/RockCreekFoundationDocs by March 10, 2014.
To hear more information and share your thoughts in person with National Park Service staff, please attend the open house on Monday, March 3, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
