WASHINGTON, D. C. – The National Park Service (NPS) will hold a Public Meeting on January 14, 2014 for Rock Creek Park's Phase V of the Preservation of Meridian Hill Park. NPS proposes to continue repairs to the exposed aggregate concrete throughout the park, stabilize historic features, and install an American Disability Act (ADA) accessible entrance into the lower level of the park.

In accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and other laws, regulations, and policies, an Assessment of Effects will be prepared to analyze the potential effects of a range of alternatives on the cultural resources of the park and the surrounding historic properties.

The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public with information about the project being considered.

This informational meeting is in an "open house" format. Doors will open at 6:30 P.M. with a brief introduction and presentation at 7:00 P.M.NPS staff will be available to visit with attendees and answer questions.

Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Location: 1401 Florida Avenue, N.W. (corner of 14th Street and Florida Avenue, N.W.)
At the Moshe Zusman Photograph Studio

Based on the treatment alternative identified during the public outreach and study effort for the Cultural Landscape Report (2001), the proposed project continues the focus on repair and/or replacement in-kind of the exposed aggregate concrete and re-vitalization of the landscape throughout the park. Work will also include the identification and installation of an American Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible route into the lower level of the park to allow for access to one of the most iconic character-defining features of Meridian Hill Park, the Cascades. Stabilization efforts to the Great Terrace will be undertaken to prevent further water infiltration into the lower rooms of the terrace and to correct the settling of the concrete at this feature.

A 30-day public comment period is open through February 9, 2014.During this time, the public is invited to comment on the proposed action, and identify potential issues or concerns for consideration. Only written comments can be accepted.

Comments may be submitted electronically at the NPS's Planning, Environment, and Public Comment website (https://parkplanning.nps.gov/MeridianHpark PhaseV).
