National Park Service Opens Peirce Mill for the Season
Washington, D.C. –The National Park Service is pleased to announce that Peirce Barn and Peirce Mill have opened for the season. Peirce Barn and Peirce Mill are located on Tilden St., across from Picnic Area 1 in Rock Creek Park. Peirce Barn and Peirce Mill will be open Wednesday – Sunday 10 AM to 4 PM (except July 4) until November 1.
Peirce Mill, completed in 1829, is the only surviving grist mill on Rock Creek. The mill has been restored to working condition and milling demonstrations are conducted April – October on the second and fourth Saturday of each month.
Visitors to Peirce Barn can view an exhibit about the history of the Peirce family and the mills of Rock Creek and enjoy a locally produced film about Peirce Mill and food production.
