WASHINGTON⎼ Sometime this week, likely Wednesday Oct. 12, contractors will begin reconstruction of the multi-use trail in Rock Creek Park along Beach Drive between Tilden St NW and Piney Branch Parkway. The National Park Service will provide a delineated and protected space for pedestrians and cyclists on Beach Drive adjacent to the trail work. Cyclists and pedestrians will need to rejoin the multi-use trail and exit Beach Drive at Piney Branch Parkway. Construction crews continue work on the surface of Beach Drive between Porter St NW and the Rock Creek &Potomac Parkway, which begins just south of the zoo tunnel.

Park users are advised to stay alert and follow signs as conditions and routes will change as construction progresses. Additionally, cyclists and pedestrians are reminded to respect posted closures. Use of the closed sections of Beach Drive (currently between Porter St NW and Rock Creek &Potomac Parkway) is prohibited and violators are subject to citation. Increased patrols by the United States Park Police are being implemented in the closure area due to very serious safety concerns resulting from the number of near misses between construction equipment and pedestrians and cyclists who have illegally entered the closed area.
