Bringing the magic of the redwoods to classrooms, California State Parks' PORTS (Parks Online Rescourses for Teachers and Students) program uses video-conference technology to link students and park rangers. In existence since 2003, this distance-learning program reaches over 30,000 students per year. Aligned with sixth grade California academic content standards, students get a behind-the-scenes look at Redwood National and State Parks—from the latest canopy research to large-scale ecological restoration efforts now underway in the parks.
