Directions to Park Destinations via Highway 1

 

Tip: Some of the park's roads and parking lots are closed to or do not have space for recreational vehicles (RVs) and vehicles pulling trailers. If you are traveling with a trailer or are driving an RV towing a passenger vehicle, consider unhitching at the bus/RV/trailer-only parking lot at Bear Valley and taking only the passenger vehicle as you travel park roads. more...

 

Directions to the Tomales Bay Trailhead

Allow 15 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn left and follow Highway 1 2.1 miles (3.3 km) north to Point Reyes Station.
  • Turn left to stay on Highway 1 and follow Highway 1 northwest three blocks before turning right (after the bank) to continue on Highway 1 northeast out of town.
  • Continue following Highway 1 north 1.7 miles (2.7 km), keeping left at the Petaluma-Point Reyes Road junction, to the Tomales Bay Trailhead, which will be on the west/left-hand side of the road.

Directions to the Lagunitas Creek Spur Trail

Allow 10 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn left and follow Highway 1 2.0 miles (3.2 km) north toward Point Reyes Station to B Street (first intersection after crossing the bridge at the south end of town).
  • Turn left and follow B Street north two blocks to 3rd Street.
  • Turn left and follow 3rd Street one block west to C Steet.
  • The Lagunitas spur trail is at the southwest corner of this intersection.

Directions to the Point Reyes Horse Camp

Allow 10 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 3.3 miles (5.3 km) south to the Horse Camp driveway.
  • Turn right and follow the dirt driveway about 0.25 miles (0.4 km) to the Horse Camp.

Directions to Five Brooks Trailhead and Stables

Allow 10 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 3.6 miles (5.8 km) south to the Five Brooks driveway.
  • Turn right and follow the dirt driveway 0.25 miles (0.4 km) to the Five Brooks parking lot.

Note: Be careful returning to Highway 1. The driveway is located between a couple blind curves.

Directions to Randall Trailhead

Allow 15 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 6 miles (9.6 km) south to the Randall Trailhead. Park in one of the large dirt pullouts on either side of the road.

Note: The sign for the Randall Trail is aligned parallel to Highway 1 on the east side of the road and can easily be missed.

Directions to Pacific Coast Science and Learning Center

Allow 15 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 6.1 miles (9.8 km) south to the driveway for the Pacific Coast Science and Learning Center.
  • Turn right and follow the driveway for 0.1 miles (0.2 km).

Directions to McCurdy Trailhead

Allow 20 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 8.3 miles (13.3 km) south to the McCurdy Trailhead. Park in one of the dirt pullouts on either side of the road.

Note: The sign for the McCurdy Trail is aligned parallel to Highway 1 on the east side of the road and can easily be missed.

Directions to Agate Beach County Park and Duxbury Reef

Allow 30 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 9.3 miles (14.9 km) south to the Olema-Bolinas Road. Note: There are no large signs for this intersection. If you end up with a large body of water or mudflats (Bolinas Lagoon) on your right, you missed the intersection.
  • Turn right and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 1.3 miles (2.1 km) south to the junction with Horseshoe Hill Road.
  • Turn left and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) south to Mesa Road.
  • Turn right and follow Mesa Road 0.7 miles (1.1 km) west to Overlook Drive.
  • Turn left and follow Overlooks Drive 0.5 miles (0.8 km) southto Elm Road.
  • Turn right and follow Elm Road 1 mile (1.6 km) east to the junction of Ocean Parkway.
  • The parking lot for Agate Beach County Park is ahead and to the left.

Directions to the Historic RCA Bolinas Coast Transmitting Station / Commonweal

Allow 30 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 9.3 miles (14.9 km) south to the Olema-Bolinas Road. Note: There are no large signs for this intersection. If you end up with a large body of water or mudflats (Bolinas Lagoon) on your right, you missed the intersection.
  • Turn right and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 1.3 miles (2.1 km) south to the junction with Horseshoe Hill Road.
  • Turn left and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) south to Mesa Road.
  • Turn right and follow Mesa Road as it winds northwest 2.2 miles (3.5 km) to the entrance for the Commonweal driveway, which will be on the left side of the road at a sharp bend in the road. Park on either the left or right side of the driveway after pulling off of Mesa Road.

Directions to Point Blue Conservation Science Palomarin Field Station

Allow 35 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 9.3 miles (14.9 km) south to the Olema-Bolinas Road. Note: There are no large signs for this intersection. If you end up with a large body of water or mudflats (Bolinas Lagoon) on your right, you missed the intersection.
  • Turn right and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 1.3 miles (2.1 km) south to the junction with Horseshoe Hill Road.
  • Turn left and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) south to Mesa Road.
  • Turn right and follow Mesa Road as it winds northwest 4.1 miles (6.6 km) to the Point Blue Conservation Science Palomarin Field Station, which will be on the left side of the road. The last 0.75 miles (1.2 km) of this route is on an unpaved road.

Directions to Palomarin Trailhead

Allow 40 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 9.3 miles (14.9 km) south to the Olema-Bolinas Road. Note: There are no large signs for this intersection. If you end up with a large body of water or mudflats (Bolinas Lagoon) on your right, you missed the intersection.
  • Turn right and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 1.3 miles (2.1 km) south to the junction with Horseshoe Hill Road.
  • Turn left and follow the Olema-Bolinas Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) south to Mesa Road.
  • Turn right and follow Mesa Road as it winds northwest 4.8 miles (7.7 km) to the Palomarin Trailhead. The last 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of this route is on an unpaved road.

Directions to Bolinas Ridge Trail's southern trailhead

Allow 30 minutes for the drive from the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

  • From the Bear Valley Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles (0.3 km) to Bear Valley Road.
  • Turn right and follow Bear Valley Road 0.5 miles (0.8 km) east to Highway 1.
  • Turn right and follow Highway 1 9.4 miles (15 km) south to the Fairfax-Bolinas Road. Note: There are no large signs for this intersection. If you end up with a large body of water or mudflats (Bolinas Lagoon) on your right, you missed the intersection.
  • Turn left and follow the narrow and winding Fairfax-Bolinas Road 4.4 miles (7 km) east and uphill to the trailhead just before the junction with West Ridgecrest Boulevard. There are a few small areas in which to park vehicles on the southwest side of the road (righthand side if you are driving uphill). Please be sure that your vehicle is parked completely off the road and not in any way blocking the roadway.
