At approximately 2 pm on Monday, September 1, several individuals attempted to cross the mouth of Drakes Estero while the tide was out. They were successful in crossing in one direction but on their return trip, visual contact with one individual was lost while swimming against an incoming tide. The National Park Service and Henry 1 rescue helicopter from Sonoma County, along with Marin County Fire Water Team, South Marin dive team, and USCG helicopter assisted in the search. The search was suspended after sunset on September 1 and has started again this morning with 2 separate dive teams, rescue water craft, and, as the fog lifts, air support from CHP and Marin County. No further information is available at this time. The National Park Service is leading the investigation and working with the other agencies involved. -NPS- |
