The National Park Service (NPS) today signed a special use permit with the operators of the Drakes Bay Oyster Company.

The permit allows a commercial oyster and clam operation within Drakes Estero, part of Point Reyes National Seashore, through 2012.

Terms of the permit are consistent with the Consent Order of the California Coastal Commission for the commercial operation, focusing on conditions and uses that protect the park resources.
