Park Documentary Explores the Stories of Celebrated Piece of California Coastline

Discovery Communications, a Proud Partner of America’s National Parks, today announced the release of its newest ParkDoc, Point Reyes: The Point of Kings. The film, produced in partnership with The National Park Service (NPS), the National Park Foundation (NPF) and Discovery Channel captures the majestic beauty and diverse landscape of the Point Reyes National Seashore, explores the practices and culture of its various inhabitants, and chronicles how local conservation efforts have evolved over time.

"Discovery is proud to bring its high quality storytelling to America’s National Parks. Pt. Reyes National Seashore not only boasts one of the most magnificent and diverse landscapes in the country, but also offers a lesson in preserving America’s natural beauty. We hope that this ParkDoc film will expand visitors’ knowledge, understanding and appreciation of this historic place," said Carrie Passmore, Senior Vice President for Public Partnerships, Discovery Communications.

Point Reyes: The Point of Kings demonstrates Discovery’s commitment to create engaging and unforgettable experiences for the millions of visitors to America’s National Parks. The film was produced in high definition and surround sound. Upon its release, it will be shown daily at the Bear Valley Visitor Center on Bear Valley Road in Olema, California and as scheduled on Discovery HD Theatre.

Point Reyes: The Point of Kings takes viewers on a journey through the astounding diversity of the Park and its unspoiled sweep of golden California coast. Point Reyes is home to 90 thousand acres of coastal grassland, maritime forests, mountain ridges and fog-shrouded valleys where mountain lions and Tule elk roam the inland valleys. In the cold, nutrient-rich Pacific Ocean waters, Grey, Blue and Humpback whales migrate and harbor and elephant seals bask in rowdy colonies on the rocky shores. For all its wild inhabitants, Point Reyes is also a place of dynamic change and human impact. Coast Miwok Indians, Spanish explorers, gold-hungry prospectors, cattle ranchers and dairy farmers have all left their mark.

"This film helps visitors understand the intricate resource issues found at this spectacular area, set aside by the American people for all to experience," said Don Neubacher, Point Reyes National Seashore Superintendent. "Both Discovery Communications and the National Park Foundation understood the sensitive nature of the vast cultural and natural resources at the Seashore and were very receptive to our needs during the making of this film."
