The Point Reyes National Seashore Association (PRNSA) welcomed Lisle Lee as their Executive Director this week. Ms. Lee has twelve years experience working for the National Park Service and 10 years in non-profit fund-raising and administration, including Lindsay Wildlife Museum and Point Reyes Bird Observatory. PRNSA is the non-profit cooperative association which operates the park book stores and offers Field Seminars, Elderhostel programs and the Summer Science and Adventure Camps for kids.

PRNSA has raised over $3 million in funding to date for projects affecting threatened and endangered species, park improvements, and education programming for the public. The Clem Miller Environmental Education Center, which annually provides education programs to thousands of Bay Area School children, were funded by donations and grants received by PRNSA. Educational exhibits in each of the park visitor centers was funded from grants and sales revenues generated by PRNSA, as are many wayside exhibits throughout the park.

While Development Director for the Point Reyes Bird Observatory, Ms. Lee worked closely with park staff to raise funds for critical resource management issues such as the endangered snowy plovers on Point Reyes’ Beaches, elephant seal research and monitoring the effects of plant and animal life after the Vision Fire.

Lee plans to expand revenues for park projects through increased membership in the Association, grants from foundations and corporations and donor giving programs.

According to Park Superintendent Don Neubacher few visitors realize that revenue generated by the sale of interpretive merchandise in the National Seashore, along with PRNSA membership fees, go directly to the park.

Lee says, “I am fortunate to be a part of this very important partnership. I know what we do today will save our national treasures for tomorrow.”
