General Management Plan Amendment and Environmental Impact Statement Public Scoping

The National Park Service (NPS) initiated an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a General Management Plan Amendment (GMP Amendment) to address all lands currently under agricultural lease/permits within Point Reyes National Seashore and the north district of Golden Gate National Recreation Area in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act.

This announcement, published on October 31, 2018, also initiated a 30-day public comment period from October 31 to November 30, 2018. The NPS encouraged public participation and comments on the draft purpose and need for the project, proposed impact topics, a refined range of alternatives, and a proposed action presented in a GMP Amendment newsletter (4,095 KB PDF).

The NPS hosted two scoping meetings during this comment period. For materials presented at the public meetings, please see the Public Meetings Materials section below to download the meeting banners and additional inserts to the newsletter. The meetings were identical in format and intended to share information and gather comments for use in shaping the plan. The meetings were held in mid-November at the following locations:

Wednesday, November 14, 2018
5–7 pm
West Marin School Gym
Point Reyes Station, CA

Thursday, November 15, 2018
5–7 pm
Bay Model Visitor Center
Sausalito, CA

Comments were submitted online at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/poregmpa, at one of the public meetings, or by mailing or hand delivering comments to:

These lands host diverse natural and cultural resources, millions of visitors, layers of human history, and ongoing active agriculture. The interests and issues are broad and complex. We look forward to working with you to create a shared vision for the planning area.
