Description
Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park (CEBE) is offering a Battlefield & Ballot Box ranger-led walk on Wednesdays, October 2, 16, & 30. This 1-hour tour will begin at 2:00 pm. Meet at the Moring Attack Trails parking area on Claven Lane, Middletown, Va. Turn onto Long Meadow Road, just south of the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation Museum & Visitor Center along US 11. Right turn onto Claven Lane, the parking area is at the end of the drive.
Walk with a park ranger along the ridge overlooking Belle Grove Plantation. This was the camp area for a division of the US 8th Corps before the Battle of Cedar Creek. Learn how these soldiers participated in the 1864 state and presidential elections by voting from the front lines. On October 19, 1864, this ridge was a key position during the morning Confederate surprise attack and was the site of intense fighting. The walk is a gentle 1-mile (1.6 km) on mowed grass trails.
This tour is free and open to the public. Bring water, sunscreen, and comfortable footwear.
