The National Park Service’s birthday, also known as Founders’ Day, is August 25. Without quarriers, Pipestone National Monument would not exist. As in past years, we would like our recognition to include a celebration of the people who keep this 3,000-year-old tradition alive.
We will have our official celebration on Saturday, August 26. Events and activities are listed below:
Event Schedule
9:00-11:00 Quarrying Demo in Mark Pederson’s Pit
12:00 Complimentary Cookies and Lemonade (while supplies last)
1:00-4:00 Activity Stations:
- Make Your Own Atlatl (target practice included!)
- Wasna-making Station (try traditional foods)
- Traditional Flute Music (listen to the music and stories of Bruce Weigle)
