On Saturday, August 24, Pipestone National Monument will celebrate the anniversary of the establishment of the Monument and the people continuing the 3,000-year-old tradition of quarrying. Events and activities are listed below:
Event Schedule
9:00-11:00 - Quarrying Demo in Mark Pederson’s Pit
10:00-4:00 - Artist Demonstrations with HarmonyStar Straub and Amy Raymond
12:00-1:00 - Round Dance with Nathaniel Scates (audience participation encouraged!)
1:00-4:00 - Activity Stations:
- Make Your Own Atlatl (target practice included!)
- Dried Corn Demonstration Station
- Traditional Flute Music (listen to the music and stories of Bruce Weigle)
