Founder’s Day at Pipestone National Monument

Pipestone, MN: In celebration of Pipestone National Monument’s 80th birthday, the monument is hosting an Open House at the visitor center on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 8am to 5pm. The Pipestone Indian Shrine Association will provide complimentary refreshments to visitors at the Pipestone National Monument Visitor Center between 11 am and 2 pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to walk on the Circle Trail, watch the “Pipestone Unbroken Legacy”, visit the museum to learn about our history, quarrying, tall grass prairie, and much more!

August 25th is also the National Park Service Birthday and is a fee free day at all national parks. We encourage families to come and enjoy the day and the children can participate in the Junior Ranger activities ongoing all day. The Monument offers youth the opportunity to join the National Park Service Family as Junior Rangers. During their park visit, interested youth complete activities focusing on the natural and cultural resources of the Monument. They will receive an official Junior Ranger badge and Junior Ranger certificate. All youth receiving a Junior Ranger badge on Founder's Day will be eligible to enter a raffle to win Junior Ranger gear such as a backpack, vest, or hat!

National Parks are America’s Best Idea, and there are more than 400 parks available to everyone, everyday. The fee-free days provide a great opportunity to visit a new place or an old favorite, especially one of the 127 national parks that normally charge an entrance fee.
