ALBUQUERQUE, NM — City Nature Challenge ABQ and the National Park Service invite you to explore nature in your community and share your observations on iNaturalist starting Friday, April 26 through Monday, April 29. Join nearly 700 cities on 7 continents that are participating in this 9th annual worldwide event!

Participation is easy! Simply go outside and take pictures of wild plants, animals and their evidence, and fungi that you find around your home, neighborhood, in city parks, open spaces, national forest land, National Park sites, or wherever you choose to explore. Then upload your findings to the iNaturalist app or at iNaturalist.org. Contribute to knowledge of urban wildlife and connect with people around the world.

There will be several special events at Petroglyph National Monument:

Friday, April 26: 6:00 – 7:30 pm, kick off the City Nature Challenge on a guided ranger walk of Piedras Marcadas Canyon. Participants will photograph and identify native plants, birds, insects, and other wildlife in the Monument. Binoculars will be provided for the walk while supplies last or bring your own. Meet at the Piedras Marcadas Canyon trailhead parking lot. Bring water. No amenities available.

Saturday, April 27: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, celebrate the City Nature Challenge and Junior Ranger Day together! Stop by the Information Center for Junior Ranger activities and opportunities to learn about native wildlife and interact with Park Rangers.
