Parks as Classrooms

Field Trips

Teachers and students visit Petroglyph National Monument to join a park ranger on one of several guided programs. Boca Negra Canyon, Rinconada Canyon, Piedras Marcadas Canyon, and the Volcanoes Day Use Area are all available for an out of classroom educational experience. Educational programs are free and limited to 30 students per group. Adult chaperones are required.

Traveling Trunks

Invite a Park Ranger to visit your classroom and present an educational program. Subjects vary from the Ancestral Puebloan Lifestyle, Spanish Colonial Lifestyle, Desert Mammals, Pottery workshop, Geology and Early Railroads in New Mexico.

Curriculum Materials

These easy-to-do lessons are designed so all teachers can use them in their classrooms. Topics range from Culture and Lifestyles of the Ancestral Puebloans, to Petroglyphs, Geology, and Spanish Influence in New Mexico. Each topic is structured to fit Social Studies, Science, and Art Subjects.
