PETERSBURG, Va — Join the staff and living history volunteers at Petersburg National Battlefield as we continue our observance of the 160th anniversary of the Petersburg Campaign.
On September 28-29, the park will host programs highlighting what life was like behind the trenches at Grant’s Headquarters at City Point. Visitors will be able to interact with soldiers and civilians and learn how the war turned a quiet village into a major logistics hub. Family-friendly, hands-on displays and educational activities from the park, and our partner parks, museums, and community groups. Activities will include musicians, a telegraph, building a model pontoon bridge, and 3-D images of the Civil War. The event will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday and 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Sunday. The Grant’s Headquarters unit is located at 1001 Pecan Ave, Hopewell, Virginia.
Fully detailed schedules of the programs will be released at a later date. Updates will be posted on our webpage and social media. Both events are weather permitting. All Petersburg National Battlefield events and program are free.
