Celebrate National Park Week and Junior Ranger Day on Saturday, April 29th, 2023, by visiting Petersburg National Battlefield. Stopover at Tour Stop 5 of the Eastern Front Tour Road from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM for a few family-oriented Junior Ranger activities. During a one-mile self-paced physical activity trail, participants will "work out" like animals of the park and Civil War soldiers.
Exciting news! Park staff has been hard at work updating our Junior Ranger booklet. Visit the Eastern Front Visitor Center to get a copy of the booklet. The Junior Ranger Program encourages participants of all ages to spark an interest in history and become stewards of the park. Once your booklet is complete, earn your Petersburg National Battlefield Junior Ranger patch.
About the Junior Ranger Program
The Junior Ranger Program is a great way to explore national parks. You can learn about nature sounds, night skies, and our nation’s history. The NPS Junior Ranger program is an activity-based program conducted in almost all parks, and some Junior Ranger programs are national. Many national parks offer young visitors the opportunity to join the National Park Service "family" as Junior Rangers. Interested youth complete a series of activities during a park visit, share their answers with a park ranger, and receive an official Junior Ranger patch.
