PETERSBURG, Va – Celebrate Earth Day by visiting your local national park! The National Park Service is excited to announce a community Earth Day Event at Grant’s Headquarters in Hopewell Virginia.
Join Petersburg National Battlefield on Saturday, April 20, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for a variety of activities and volunteer projects including:
10:00 am - 12:00 pm: Volunteer Event- Various projects including shoreline cleanup, vegetation trimming, tree planting, minor maintenance repairs.
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Family Friendly Programming- Hands on archeology and earth science activities, arts and crafts, nonprofit organization meet and greet.
About Earth Day Earth Day is an annual, global celebration encouraging education and stewardship of the planet’s natural resources. This year’s theme is Planet vs. Plastics to build widespread awareness of the health risk and environmental impact of plastics and the larger goal to phase out single use plastics. There are everlasting impacts on marine and animal wildlife from plastics that have been broken down in our oceans and along the shoreline.
If you go Entrance to the park and parking at the site are free. Restrooms will be open to the public. Please bring water, snacks, sun protection, and wear comfortable clothing appropriate to the weather.
