PETERSBURG, Va — October is Virginia Archeology Month! Petersburg National Battlefield will host several events throughout the month to celebrate!
October 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th- Participate in the Junior Ranger Archeology program and earn a badge by completing short activities each week at the Hopewell Farmers Market from 5-8 pm. Junior Rangers of all ages are welcome, and 15-minute programs are offered continuously through the 3-hour window.
October 3rd- The Appomattox Regional Library-Hopewell Branch will display the Leisure and Labor: The Archeology of Daily Life at City Point exhibit until November.
October 27th- "Rivers of Life" Join Park Rangers for a guided walk at City Point and explore how the Appomattox and James Rivers have brought life to City Point. Rich in floral and faunal resources, City Point at the confluence of these two rivers has been used in many ways by different groups of people over time.
October 29th- Join State Underwater Archaeologist Brendan Burke at the Appomattox Regional Library-Hopewell Branch at 6 pm to learn about how the Battle of Yorktown, the Siege of Petersburg and the building of modern Richmond maritime networks have defined the region.
