Pecos, NM: To protect public health and slow the spread of the COVID-19 novel coronavirus, the National Park Service is cancelling the Civil War Encampment at Pecos National Historical Park which was to be held on Saturday, March 28.
Dr. Claudia Floyd’s lecture, “Battle of Glorieta Pass: Gettysburg of the West?” which was scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on March 26 at the Vista Grande Public Library is also cancelled.
These actions have been taken based on the best available medical advice to limit gatherings of large numbers of people and to promote social distancing. At this time, the Pecos National Historical Park Visitor Center and trails remain open to the public.
While outdoor spaces, like park trails, are believed to be safer than indoor spaces, visitors are urged to take the precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). For tips from the CDC on preventing illnesses like the coronavirus, go to: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/prevention.html
