Park Offers Founder's Day Events

Pecos, NM: – Pecos National Historical Park will celebrate the 101^st birthday of the National Park Service with a series of family-friendly events on Saturday, August 26^th.
 
In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the "Organic Act" which stated that the purpose of the newly formed National Park Service was "to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and wild life therein, and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations." What better way to celebrate this 101^st birthday than spending a fun-filled morning at the park with the family!
 
Scavenger Hunt Challenge
10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Solve the riddles, follow the clues, and make beautiful crafts. Everyone who participates will receive his/her choice of an amazingly cute prize. Return to the visitor center and enter your name in the raffle for a grand prize drawing that will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the Visitor Center. You do not need to be present to win. 
 
Story Time in the Kiva
11:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m.
Climb down the ladder into this sacred underground chamber for a special story time and origami pottery craft with the ranger staff. Meet on top of roof of the conventokiva near the mission church.
 
Adobe Making Demonstration
10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Stop by the Visitor Center to see the messy process of making adobe bricks. Check out how they are formed, baked, and used in this informal, drop-in program.
 
Refreshments
10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Lemonade, tea, cookies and frozen treats available to everyone!
 
Activities are appropriate for visitors of all ages and abilities.  Prizes will be provided by the park’s partner, Western National Parks Association. And, in support of Founder’s Day, all bookstore items will be 15% off on both Friday, August 25^th and Saturday, August 26^th, 2017.
